Who can pay money into my Junior ISA?

The ISA allowance is the maximum amount you can invest across all types of ISAs in any one tax year. You can put your whole allowance into a particular type of ISA or you can split it between the different types of ISAs: Cash, Stocks & Shares, Lifetime and Innovative Finance. The ISA allowance for the 2026/27 tax year is £20,000. For Junior Cash ISAs, the allowance is £9,000.

Yes. As long as the child was a UK resident when the Triodos Junior cash ISA was opened, you will still be able to pay into it even though you and/or the child have moved abroad. 

It is not possible to change the type of account. However, once you have opened a Triodos Junior Cash ISA, you can move funds from your Good Start Saver or Right Start Saver into it, subject to the Junior ISA allowance of £9,000 for the 2026/27 tax year.

When the child turns 18 the account will automatically convert to an adult variable rate cash ISA in the child's name only. After this date, the child can choose whether to access the money or continue saving. We will send reminders nearer the time.

A child can only hold one Junior cash ISA and one Junior stocks and shares ISA at any time and cannot hold a Junior ISA and a Child Trust Fund at the same time as a Junior ISA of any type. So if your child already holds a Junior ISA of the same type or a Child Trust Fund, it must be closed and transferred to the Triodos Junior ISA.

You can also choose to transfer funds between a Triodos Junior Cash ISA and a Juior Stocks and Shares ISA, or between Junior ISAs with other providers.

• Transfers of current year’s subscriptions or transfers between the same type of Junior ISA must always be done in full.
• Partial transfers can only be done if they are previous years’ subscriptions and you are moving the subscriptions between different Junior ISA types e.g. Junior cash to Junior stocks and shares or Junior stocks and shares to Junior cash.

• The whole of the Child Trust Fund must be transferred and the Child Trust Fund subsequently closed.
• The annual subscription allowance for a Child Trust Fund is based on the child’s birth year while Junior ISA subscriptions are based on tax years. When a transfer of a Child Trust Fund to a Junior ISA has been made, the child can use the full Junior ISA subscription allowance for the tax year in which the transfer takes place regardless of any subscriptions made to the Child Trust Fund in that year. This only occurs in the tax year in which the Child Trust Fund is transferred. In subsequent years only the Junior ISA allowance can be used.

By completing an application for any of our Personal Savings accounts online you are automatically registered for Internet Banking and can manage your account online.

If your application was made by post, then Internet Banking access is available for the following Personal Savings accounts:

• Triodos Saver
• Triodos Cash ISA
• Triodos Regular Saver
• Triodos Fixed Regular Saver
• Triodos Charity Saver

You can also access Triodos Right Start Saver and Junior ISA accounts online, but you can't make payments from these accounts.

Yes. You can transfer an existing stocks and shares ISA to a Triodos Stocks and Shares ISA. Be aware, if transferring from a stocks and shares ISA, your investments will be sold and the transfer will be completed in cash.

If you don't already have a Triodos Stocks and Shares ISA, you will need to open one first. You can do this via the Triodos Mobile Banking App.

To request the transfer, you’ll need to download and complete the relevant form below. The transfer forms are interactive so you can add your details online. However, we need an original signature, so you'll need to print and sign the form before posting it to us. Alternatively, you can submit your signed and completed form via the chat function in the Triodos App. 

We will then transfer the funds directly between your ISAs and protect your tax-free ISA status. Do not move funds out of an ISA yourself, because your money will lose this ISA status.

The transfer process usually takes between 14-30 days. We’ll write to you when the transfer is complete.

If you are transferring to a new Fixed Rate ISA, please note that it can take up to 30 days to complete a transfer. We must receive your money from your existing provider within 60 days of the Fixed Rate ISA account opening date, so please make sure you start the transfer process as soon as possible.

No. All money paid into a Junior Cash ISA is a gift to the child and cannot be returned or withdrawn.

Withdrawals are not permitted until the child is 18 years old, except in the event of death or terminal illness of the child. When the child turns 18 the account will automatically convert into an adult cash ISA in the child's name only. Then only the child will be able to access the money.

It is, however, possible to transfer a Junior Cash ISA to a Triodos Junior Stocks and Shares ISA or to a Junior ISA with another provider at any time.

When you pay funds into your Account, your funds will start earning interest from the day the funds are paid into your Account.

Trades are submitted to the fund manager at 10am each Business Day. So you can cancel a trade which has not been dealt at any time prior to this.

To cancel a pending instruction, go to your investment account in Internet Banking or the Mobile App where you will find ‘Pending’ instructions under the ‘Transactions’ section. Click on the instruction you would like to cancel, you will be shown the key dates for your instruction and a cancel button (which will not be shown if your instruction has now been dealt and is therefore no longer pending). Select ‘Cancel’ then click ‘Continue’ to confirm you would like to cancel your instruction. You will then see a message confirming that your instruction has been cancelled.

Once your child is 16 they can request to become the Registered Contact and manage the Account themselves. They do not need the consent of the parent (Legal Representative on the account). On receipt of a valid request, we will remove the Legal Representative from the account without notifying them.

We will remind the Legal Representative and the Account holder about this before the Account holder's 16th birthday.

If your child does not choose to remove the Legal Representative the Junior Cash ISA will continue to be managed by the Legal Representative until the child is 18.

Yes, you can change the Legal Representative on a Junior Cash ISA by contacting us to complete a change of Legal Representative. Only one adult is able to operate the account at a time.

To top up a Triodos cash ISA you can:

• Make an online payment from another account (either an account with another provider or another Triodos account that allows withdrawals).
• Send us a cheque if the Triodos cash ISA you want to top up accepts cheque.

The following accounts do not accept cheque payments:

• Online Cash ISA
• Fixed Rate Cash ISAs

Each child can have one Junior cash ISA and one Junior stocks and shares ISA at any one time. These can be with different providers.

A child cannot hold a Child Trust Fund at the same time as any type of Junior ISA, with the same or different providers. If the child already has a Child Trust Fund, this must be closed and transferred to the Junior ISA.

To top up a Triodos Stocks and Shares ISA or Junior Stocks and Shares ISA, simply make an online payment into your linked Stocks and Shares ISA Cash Account or Junior Stocks and Shares ISA Cash Account. Once you add money into a Stocks and Shares ISA Cash Account or Junior Stocks and Shares ISA Cash Account, this will count as an ISA subscription for the current tax year.

You can then take your time to decide what investments you would like to make, safe in the knowledge that your money has already counted as a subscription for the current tax year.

Remember that investments go up and down in value, so you could get back less than you put in. 

Yes, you can. You’ll need to contact your new provider and they’ll arrange the transfer for you – there’s no need to contact us.  

Make sure you are the Legal Representative on the Triodos Junior ISA and all the details on your new provider’s transfer form match those used for your Triodos Junior ISA account, including your name, address, date of birth and National Insurance Number. 

Yes, you can split your ISA allowance into different types of ISA: Cash, Stocks & Shares, Lifetime, and Innovative Finance.

Since 6 April 2024, you have been able to subscribe to more than one Cash, Stocks & Shares or Innovative Finance ISA in the same tax year. However, it is still only possible to have one Lifetime ISA. Please note that Triodos does not offer Lifetime ISAs.

Yes, you can change your existing Triodos cash ISA to a Triodos Online Cash ISA or Fixed Rate Cash ISA by completing the form below.

Changes to a different type of Triodos cash ISA are not permitted from Triodos Ethical Junior Cash ISAs or non-ISA savings accounts.

On receipt of a completed request, we will change the type of cash ISA you hold, the balance of your account and your account number will remain the same. All money held in the account will maintain its tax-free status and the change will not affect your subscription allowance. We will write to you to confirm when we have actioned your request.
