Beautiful Hestercombe’s 50 acres of gardens are full of lakes, temples, tranquil woodland and stunning planting. The Gardens Trust was established in 1996 to restore and preserve the estate for years to come. Every year they host a number of fun Christmas activities aimed primarily at families. This year there’s a huge amount to choose from including carol concerts, an ice skating rink, festive walks and a visit from Father Christmas.
When and where: Events are running throughout December in the Somerset gardens, with special performances on select days.
Christmas feasting…
Fat Macy’s
Fat Macy’s works with young Londoners living in temporary accommodation. They provide a pathway towards independent living by inviting them to create and curate culinary pop-up events across the capital. This festive season they’re hosting Christmas-inspired three-course meals mixing the best of tradition with their chef’s own culinary influences.
When and where: There are still tickets for Thursday December 22 at Printworks Kitchen in east London.
River Cottage
Set in 65 acres of glorious Devon countryside, River Cottage HQ has long been a champion of local, seasonal produce and spearheaded important campaigns around sustainability and animal welfare. They’re hosting midwinter feasts to provide an antidote to Christmas mayhem: after being transported to the house by tractor you can expect canapes and a wonderful seasonal feast.
When and where: The midwinter feast is running at River Cottage HQ in Devon from December 27 to January 2, and is available at lunch or dinner.
Some time away…
